Who is Anorexia Nervosa common in?
Anorexia Nervosa is most common in women and girls but does affect some men. Anorexia used to be common in white, young girls from wealthy families with pressure to be perfect. Now it's more likely to be black, Hispanic, Asians, boys and middle aged people. Doctors ask, if anorexia isn't a disease of type-A girls with privileged backgrounds, then what is it? The media has put an idea in everybody's minds that a pretty, desirable girl is a skinny girl. 80% of women answered a People Magazine survey saying that the women in movies and TV shows make them feel insecure. Two out of five women and One out of five men say they would give up three to five years of their life to achieve their weight goals.
